Giant Food offers classroom and online training, so our associates can go as far as they want to go in a career with Giant Food.
We develop our associates through on-the-job and classroom training, including workshops, e-learning courses and assignments that provide leadership lessons and growth opportunities.
Giant Food is proud to provide each of our full-time associates having one plus years of service with up to $5,250 per calendar year in tuition reimbursement for work-related degree programs. Our tuition reimbursement program is designed to support part-time degree programs, enabling our associates to pursue degrees while continuing to perform well at work.
Giant Food has been making a difference in the lives of our associates and their families for more than 20 years. Each year, our scholarship committee reviews up to 400 applications from our associates and their families and has awarded more than $5 million in scholarships and grants to date.
One of the original founders of Giant Food, Izzy Cohen strongly believed in the power of training and education. Ten winners are selected among associates each year, with awards valued at $4,000 and renewable for up to four years.
Esther Peterson was one of the most admired women in Giant Food, pioneering the use of nutritional and unit price labeling and serving as Consumer Advocate for the company. This grant is awarded in conjunction with Izzy Cohen Scholarships and provides ten additional non-renewable awards of $1,000 each to associates.
Giant Food welcomes what our associates bring to the company – their values, their perspectives and their beliefs. Though it makes good business sense, we are inclusive because it is simply the right thing to do.
Giant Food aspires to provide an inclusive and welcoming environment to work and shop for the LGBTQ community. We are proud to have received a perfect score of 100 percent on the 2019 Corporate Equality Index, the nation’s premier benchmarking survey and report on corporate policies and practices related to LGBTQ workplace equality.
We also facilitate resource groups dedicated to PRIDE, Veterans and Women Adding Value, each supporting diversity and inclusion, engagement, professional development, business impact and community outreach.
Giant Food strives to create healthy workplaces that reflect the diversity of our communities and contribute to the health and well-being of our associates. Our healthy living programs aim to make healthier choices easy for our associates through, for example, educational programs on nutrition and diabetes prevention, and smoking cessation. Healthy and aware associates can support our customers in making healthier decisions in our stores, so the impact stretches far beyond Giant.
At Giant Food, our associates are the heart of our company – and there’s no better example of that than our Helping Hands Fund. Funded together by Giant and our associates to help associates in need, Helping Hands supports fellow associates who are faced with extraordinary personal tragedy, sudden extreme financial hardship or catastrophic loss related to illness, death or natural disaster.
All active associates are eligible to apply for financial assistance from Helping Hands, with disbursements ranging from $500-$2,000. The funds may be used to help associates or family members living with them.
