At Giant Food, we believe protecting the planet means protecting our future. We continuously look for new ways to be environmentally and socially responsible.

Giant Food is owned by Netherlands-based Ahold Delhaize, which in 2010 signed the United Nations Global Compact, an initiative for businesses committed to aligning their operations and strategies with ten universally accepted principles in the areas of human rights, labor, environment and anticorruption.

Just this spring, Ahold Delhaize signed on to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) to help set climate targets that align with the global imperative to reduce carbon emissions. The framework, developed by the UN Global Compact, World Resources Institute, World Wildlife Fund and CDP, helps specify how much and how quickly organizations need to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions to stay within the 1.5 degrees C maximum rise in global temperature.

As Ahold Delhaize sets its new emissions targets over the next 24 months, the company will examine reduction actions related to refrigeration, energy, transportation and supply chain. Its current focus is improving the energy efficiency of all facilities owned by Ahold Delhaize, moving toward more climate-friendly refrigerants, further reducing refrigerant usage, and improving transportation and logistics efficiency.
